Nature is calling
Looking for things to do in Florida?
Everyone wins on a Sarasota vacation.
Nestled between Sarasota and Venice, Osprey is a destination that puts the natural beauty of Florida center-stage.
The lush forests lining Highway 41, which provides easy access to most of Osprey’s must-sees, offer a small preview of the many parks that lie just on the other side of the tree line. Oscar Scherer State Park in south Osprey is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise; canoeing, camping, fishing and snorkeling are just a few of the outdoor adventures that begin here year round. The park’s scrubby flatwoods provide the ideal habitat for the Florida scrub-jay, a threatened species that can be spotted along the park’s fifteen miles of hiking and biking trails.
Bay Preserve in north Osprey is ideal for a picnic lunch. Spread a blanket along the waterfront under a canopy of live oak trees and watch the Sarasota Crew team glide across Little Sarasota Bay.
Plan on dedicating an afternoon to Historic Spanish Point, where you can explore 4000 years of Sarasota County history in a lush, tranquil setting. From prehistoric times to the pioneers to the present, Spanish Point’s archeological exhibit and grounds offer visitors the chance to retrace the footsteps of some of Sarasota’s earliest settlers.
A full day of the outdoors comes satisfyingly to a close at Casey Key Fish House, with a fresh seafood menu and bayside panorama that are equally mouthwatering. It is common to see visitors at the Tiki Bar holding fruity drinks in one hand and their cameras in the other, snapping shot after shot of the sun disappearing over the key.
Whether you are in search of freshwater lakes for kayaking and swimming, trails through the Florida wilderness for bird watching and biking, or simply a peaceful spot by the bay for viewing the perfect sunset, Osprey is the ideal destination for getting back to nature.
