So many beaches, so little time
Visitors to Nokomis receive quite the welcome as they drive over beautiful Dona Bay, with its turquoise waters dotted by fishing boats and kayakers. For a closer view of the bay, hike along the pet-friendly paths of the Pocono Trail Preserve that snake through a fragrant woods bordering the water.
Nokomis is one of the many picturesque stops along the Legacy Trail, a 10-mile bike path that was converted from a former CSX railroad track. Stretching from south Sarasota down to Venice, the idyllic bike trail is described by one rider as “maximum scenery and, thankfully, minimum hills.” Free parking is available at the Nokomis Community Center, with the Legacy trailhead a two-minute bike ride away.
The city is also home to Knight Trail Park, with its unique offering of activities including archery and shooting sports. The range has trap and skeet fields along with fifteen sporting clay stations, all nestled among towering oak and hickory trees.
If you’re simply looking for a relaxing afternoon in the sun, Nokomis Beach has miles of white sand waiting for you. The beaches of Nokomis seem to have an especially high volume of seashells washing up on their shores – a keen set of eyes may even find a handful of shark’s teeth buried in the sand, too!
Whether it is a day of wilderness exploration or sandcastle construction, the small town of Nokomis is sure to put a smile on your face by sundown.
