The Aquarium at Mote Marine Laboratory features a wide range of exhibits including a 135,000-gallon shark habitat, sea turtles, preserved giant squid, West Indian manatees, hands-on touch pools and exhibits featuring the world-renowned research of Mote Marine Laboratory.
New exhibits include the Seahorse Conservation Laboratory, where Mote aquarists raise baby seahorses for aquariums across the nation, and Sea Turtles: Ancient Survivors, which features live sea turtles and showcases Mote's efforts to study and protect these ancient creatures in the wild.
Sea Lions at Mote
Through April 28, 2013, meet sea lions in Mote's limited-time exhibit Sea Lions: On the Water’s Edge. The exhibit features California and Patagonian sea lions and offers visitors a chance to get close to these fascinating marine mammals. This is the second visiting exhibit hosted by The Aquarium at Mote Marine Laboratory. This new feature follows on the major success of Penguin Island, hosted by Mote in the fall of 2011 through spring 2012. Sea Lions: On the Water’s Edge will include special narrated demonstrations that highlight sea lions’ intelligence and natural abilities.
Mote also offers education programs year 'round for all ages and hosts weddings, birthdays, corporate gatherings and other events.
NEW RESEARCH CHARTERS: Mote Marine Laboratory now hosts special Research Charters - unique catch-and-release fishing trips that give anglers the chance to help Mote scientists gather data about the animals in local waters for conservation-based research. Participants can help us measure, weigh and tag a variety of species such as sharks, spotted eagle rays, snook, tarpon, permit and more.
Also check out our Coastal Observation Tours - boat rides offering the chance to see dolphins, manatees, sea birds, sharks and more in their natural environment.
Learn more at www.mote.org/researchcharters.
GROUP SALES/TOURS: Mote offers Aquarium tours spotlighting how Mote staff care for our animals and facilities before the crowds arrive (Morning Rounds, Breakfast at Mote and Seahorse Conservation Laboratory tours are available). Please visit www.mote.org/aquarium for tour details and descriptions.
