Before you make your resolutions and begin what will hopefully be a healthy and happy new year, resolve to have an exciting New Year's Eve in Sarasota. Celebrate what's to come in the new year, but also the achievements and memories of the year past. With temperature averages in the 70s even at this time of year, there’s a lot to celebrate!
All of the following events take place on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31, 2011-January 1, 2012.
Be transported back to Old Florida as you look toward the future. Historic Spanish Point wraps up its annual “Heritage Holidays” series of events with a New Year’s Eve Starlight Stroll. If you’re opting for a quiet and family-friendly New Year’s Eve, gather ‘round the fire and toast some marshmallows.
The event takes place from 6-9 p.m., so if you decide you want a little noise, there’s still plenty of time to head to one of Sarasota’s many bars or restaurants for a midnight toast. Admission is free for members, $10 for the public and $5 for guests of members.
Spanish Point is located at 337 N. Tamiami Trail in Osprey. Call (941) 966-5214 for more information, or visit www.historicspanishpoint.org.
Few of our northern (or even our western and fellow southern) friends get to bring in the new year on the water. Take advantage of Sarasota’s lovely year-round climate by celebrating at Marina Jack, situated on the bay. Entertainment and great food will carry you through the night, all leading up to a midnight fireworks show.
In the main dining room, opt for either the first (4-7 pm) or second (8:45 pm-) seating and enjoy a four-course menu. Party favors are included and the second seating leads to a champagne toast at midnight. The Big Z Band performs from 10 pm-2 am. Reservations are recommended.
Catch a performance by Rock Lee (6 pm) and enjoy dinner and a menu of flatbreads in the Deep Six Lounge and Piano Bar. The four-course dinner will also be available. Out on the patio, Chris Otto will perform from 4-8 pm and Democracy will play from 8:30 pm-12:30 am.
Cruising on the Marina Jack II is also an option. The cruise runs from 8:30 pm-12:30 am and includes live music by Serengeti, party favors, a gourmet buffet and champagne. The cost is $149.95 plus tax, per person.
